The US Embassy in Israel on Saturday warned Americans in the country to avoid large gatherings and be prepared to seek shelter following escalating tensions in Israel's multi-front war.
"The security environment is complex and can change quickly," the embassy said in an alert posted on its website. "Be aware of your surroundings."
The statement on the site explained that the warning was coming "Due to the current evolving security situation, including the resumption of red alerts and large-scale demonstrations."
"The US Embassy reminds US citizens of the continued need for caution and increased personal security awareness – including avoiding large gatherings and demonstrations, and knowing the location of the nearest shelter in the event of a red alert as security incidents, including mortar, rocket, and missile fire, and unmanned aircraft system (UAS) intrusions, often take place without any warning," the warning added.
The site also offered a list of actions to take for those who are currently in Israel, which included being aware of their surroundings, avoiding demonstrations or areas where there are heavy demonstrations, and monitoring local media.
Tensions escalate in Israel
The warning came as the Israeli army said it was attacking Hezbollah targets in Lebanon in a second wave of strikes after intercepting rockets fired from across the border earlier in the day.
Israel has also seen a series of large protests in recent days over Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's efforts to dismiss the head of the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency).
